Ceramic window tint gets marketed as the fix, but the claims vary wildly depending on who is selling it. "90% heat rejection" sounds impressive until you understand the number refers to a narrow slice of the infrared spectrum, not total solar heat. Ceramic window tint is built around microscopic, non-conductive ceramic particles embedded into a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) base layer. The key word is non-conductive. These particles do not rely on metallic layers or pigment dyes to do the work. They are engineered at the nanoscale to intercept solar energy before it passes through the glass. The film does not block heat by being dark — it blocks energy by redirecting it, a fundamentally different mechanism than anything a dyed or metallic film can offer.

The material hierarchy. Dyed tints are the common budget option, and they carry a critical flaw: they absorb heat into the film itself, then radiate a significant portion of that heat back into the cabin. A delayed heat transfer problem, not actual rejection. Metallic films reflect more solar energy but interfere with GPS, cell reception, and toll transponders. Carbon films sit in the middle — better than dyed, but still well behind ceramic on infrared rejection.
